Rochester Business Journal Highlights The Neisner at East End Grand Opening

The Rochester Business Journal recently featured the ribbon cutting and grand opening of The Neisner at East End highlighting how this project brings new life to a building with deep ties to Rochester’s past.

The original Neisner’s five-and-dime store, founded in 1911, grew to nearly 200 locations nationwide and became a staple of downtown life before closing in the 1980s. Now, after sitting vacant for more than 15 years, 49 East Avenue has been revitalized into 54 modern apartments in the heart of downtown Rochester.

The Rochester Business Journal noted how the project preserved much of the building’s historic character while blending it with contemporary features such as quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, and in-home washer and dryers. Residents of the community will have access to many amenities including a first-floor coffee and hydration lounge area, a private outdoor patio with fire pit and grill, pet spa, and access to a fitness center and social lounge in the adjacent Riedman Tower.

Mayor Malik Evans joined the celebration, underscoring how projects like this connect Rochester’s past and future. Our President, David Riedman, emphasized the importance of reviving the Neisner name as a reminder of the building’s role as a community hub.

We’re proud to see this milestone recognized by RBJ and grateful to the many partners who helped make it possible.

The Neisner at East End is Riedman’s first historic reuse project and a milestone in its ongoing commitment to revitalizing downtown Rochester.
